Open Enrollment Stampede Last updated: Thursday - December 3, 2009 On Tuesday, Dec. 1st, the Boulder Valley School District (CO) went online with an open enrollment system. Parents could login and request a school out of their assigned attendance area for their child. Within hours the system crashed due to heavy traffic. The BVSD is a district with heavy concentration of Hispanics in its eastern regions and heavy concentration of upper middle-class Anglos in the west. On page 178 of Fertilizers, Pills & Magnetic Strips, I presented a graph showing the exodus of Anglo students from Hispanic schools in the BVSD from 1994 to 2000. The pace of migration appears to be quickening. At the current rate, the BVSD will resemble the South before Brown v. Topeka. Send a Message to the Author RSS |
